The philosVQ Approach to SVQ Assessment
The philosVQ Approach to SVQ Assessment is built around your actual role, responsibilities and workplace experience
The aim is to help you recognise what your workplace evidence demonstrates, understand the professional judgement behind your practice and become more confident in explaining your competence.
Specialist Assessment, manageable caseloads
philosVQ is deliberately not a high-volume SVQ centre. Candidate numbers are kept manageable so assessment can remain responsive, individualised and closely connected to each person’s actual role and responsibilities.
Assessment planning and developmental feedback take account of the candidate’s professional goals, workplace expectations and the National Occupational Standards. This allows real practice — including more specialist responsibilities where appropriate — to become meaningful evidence of competence, knowledge and professional judgement.
For employers, philosVQ can also support small, carefully selected cohorts where a more focused and developmental approach to SVQ assessment would add value.
Starting With You
Your SVQ journey begins with a Role & Readiness Assessment, establishing a realistic starting point and ensuring the qualification reflects the work you actually do.
Together, we consider four areas:

Role

Responsibilities

Experience

Goals
philosVQ Candidate Feedback Model
The philosVQ Candidate Feedback Model brings these questions together to help you develop confidence in recognising and explaining your own competence.
Your assessor may help you explore:

What

How

Why

Outcome
The aim is for you to become increasingly confident in saying:
“I know what I did. I can explain how I did it. I understand why I did it, and I recognise the difference my practice made.”
Development Towards Independence
As your confidence develops, assessor guidance becomes less directive. Your assessor remains available to support and challenge your thinking while you increasingly recognise suitable evidence, explain your professional judgement and take ownership of the assessment process.

Clear Planning

Consistent Contact

Role-Specific Evidence

Candidate Ownership
The emphasis gradually shifts from assessor-led guidance towards confident, independent recognition and explanation of your own competence.
Your Assessor
Throughout your qualification, you will work directly with Sam Baker, an experienced SVQ assessor
Sam will support you from initial planning through to completion, providing clear assessment decisions, purposeful feedback and consistent support while encouraging increasing independence.
